Operations Excellence Lead

What Are We Looking For?

As part of our strategic operational development, we are seeking a highly driven professional to lead initiatives in process optimisation, production planning, quality management, and standards governance for our Controls & Automation Business Platform.

This role will be responsible for driving operational efficiency, ensuring product and service quality, and embedding best practices across production and business processes. The Operations Excellence Lead will primarily be based out of our Nottingham facility with some travel required to our other sites nationally.

Some of Your Key Duties Include:

Operational Excellence & Performance Management

  • Introduce key production KPIs, including throughput, downtime, efficiency, material cost, and delivery performance.
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, safety, cost and quality control.
  • Establish, maintain, and audit quality management systems to ensure compliance with internal and external standards (ISO, regulatory requirements, customer expectations).

Design & Implementation of Manufacturing Systems

  • Spearhead the establishment of a high-efficiency, manufacturing hub in Nottingham.
  • Design optimal facility layout, production workflows, and scheduling strategies to maximise operational efficiency and improve throughput whilst meeting quality and cost targets
  • Develop a scalable and repeatable production model to support long-term business growth.

Supply Chain, Production Planning & Materials Management

  • Sales and Operations planning – demand forecasting, supply planning (materials, labour, capacity)
  • Optimise inventory control and materials planning processes to support uninterrupted production.
  • Streamline internal steel fabrication workflows to significantly reduce lead times and increase responsiveness.

Leadership & Organisational Transformation

  • Provided direct leadership on a local level, while influencing manufacturing strategy across the wider group.
  • Lead the integration of systems, processes, and teams from six acquired businesses into a unified manufacturing operation.

What Do You Need?

  • Proven experience in process optimisation, production planning, and quality/standards management.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement methodologies (certification desirable).
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience influencing at all levels.
  • Ability to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on execution.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
